Stones in a Jar
This week we had a few talks in Kindergarten about what it means to be kind. What can we do, say, or act to show kindness to others?
We brainstormed many ways, and read our book:
Then, we talked about what kindness can look like. Each of the students went in a group and made a skit about kindness. Take a look at the students doing their skits in front of the class:
After showing our skits to the class, I took out a jar and some stones. I explained to the students that each stone represents a kind deed. If I see a student do a kind deed (say something nice, do something nice, act in a kind way, etc.), I can ask them to please go put a stone in the jar.
We decided as a class that once our jar is full of the stones, we get a class picnic!
The students are very excited to reach their goal and get a class picnic.
We already have a great start!
Here's how many kind deeds we have to do as a class.
This is the display set up in our classroom for a little while. Hopefully it will remind students to show kindness to others!
