Western Day

Today was Western Day at school. Look at us all dressed up!

After recess we had a hoedown in our classroom! We played some "Just Dance" songs. We played  "Cotton Eye Joe," and other country tunes.

We even invited our Office Manager, Mrs. S., to join us for a dance. We loved that she came to dance with us and we all gave her a hug!

Thank you for joining us for a dance, Mrs. S!

Mustache Day

Yesterday (Wednesday) was Mustache Day! The kids could donate $2 to support cancer research and in return the kids got a sticker mustache to wear.

Look at us in our mustaches!

More Missing Teeth

Today we had two more children who lost teeth! Very exciting! Of course they were able to choose a place on our map and we read about what they do in that part of the world when they lose a tooth.

Today we learned about:
- Tajikistan
- Argentina

A Kinder girl chose here.

A Kinder boy chose here.

Congratulations!

Wave Breaths

Lately we have been learning about "Feeling Buddies." Feeling Buddies fit right in with our mindfulness that we do in Kindergarten, along with our self-regulation that we talk about and use our Cozy Corner for. We talk about how we sometimes feel feelings other than happy or calm, and how it's okay that we feel that way. We also learn tools to help us get back to our calm state so we are ready to learn.

There are 8 Feeling Buddies that we will be learning about this year.

So far we have learned about:
- Happy
- Sad
- Calm
- Disappointed

In the picture below, we have our feeling buddy, Calm. Calm is showing us how we should look after we take belly breaths.

Today the Kinders learned a new belly breath: Wave Breaths.

Wave breaths are when you imagine that you are on a wave in the ocean (on a floatie mattress). When the waves go up, you breathe in and lift your hand up like a wave. When the waves go down, you breathe out and move your hand back down.

Do our faces look like Calm's face?

C is for Cat

Today we read the book:

We talked about the "c" sounds we heard in the book. This week we are learning about "c" and k" because they both make the same sound!

Then I showed the Kinders a photo of a "C" Cat and explained that we are going to make a cat today using the letter C.

However... the Kinders only received:
  • the black letter C (which they had to cut out)
  • A piece of grey paper
  • A piece of pink paper

I had the Kinders make their cat's own head, paws, tails, ears, nose, whiskers, and mouth! The "C" Cats turned out very unique and creative!!

Take a look at the process of making the cats!

And here are the finished products!
